Papaya is widely called the “Papaw” or the “Melon Tree”. A large herb native to tropical America and is now planted all over the tropics.
Dioecious succulent tree to 2+ metres high, with leaves digitate 7-lobed.
It produces a
milky juice which contain 2 protein-digestive enzymes; papain and chymopapain.
Papaya is a useful meat tenderiser and as an aid for digestion. Flowers are creamy
colour.
The plants thrive in well drained sites and will bear fruits in about 8
months from direct sowing. They bear fruits all the year round
Remarks: Our Papaya seeds are hermaphrodite papaya plants.
